BCSC organised the first 'day in the life' on 21 November 2008 (Permission to use from Medway Messenger® - www.medwaymessenger.co.uk) - a chance for Member of Parliament for Gillingham and Rainham, Paul Clark and Manager of Hempstead Valley Shopping Centre, Mark Rumfitt to exchange jobs for a day.
While at Hempstead Valley, Paul Clark was able to be part of a valuable discussion about community issues relating to, policing, the economy, planning, transport and skills training - all of which directly impact the shopping centre and locality.
Mark Rumfitt gained tremendous insight from a day spent in Westminster shadowing Paul Clark as he undertook his Parliamentary duties. This insider view into Parliamentary and constituency work offered a unique perspective that will be taken into account when planning future centre activities.
BCSC looks forward to arranging other 'day in the life' exchanges which aim to raise awareness of the issues, needs and challenges affecting communities and solutions provided by retail-led regeneration and related policy.
