Generation 21

The Conference was kick-started in style on Tuesday 11 November 2008
with Generation 21. Introduced by Phil Redmond, Deputy Chairman and Creative Director of the Liverpool Capital of Culture, Generation 21 was a local project with the aim of involving children in city centre design to create a 21st Century Liverpool. A DVD was produced to give schools the opportunity to replicate the creative process, enjoyed by pupils across Liverpool throughout 2008, to celebrate the city’s year as European Capital of Culture.
Commenting on the scheme and the impact of such programmes, Mr. Redmond said: “Generation 21 is a project designed not only to encourage Liverpool’s young people to think about what sort of future they would want their city to represent, but also to find a way for older generations to get an insight into what they, the influence makers and consumers of the future, are thinking about how they would like that future to look.”
