Study tours
Events away from the Conference also kept delegates busy and informed of developments in the host city. There were two Study Tours - including a retail walking tour and heritage tour. Delegates were able to tap into a special guide entitled ‘Two Walks’ - created by Nigel and Carol Woolner with the support of Chapman Taylor.
On the retail tour, delegates were treated to a first hand look at retail-led regeneration that has transformed Liverpool over recent years. The itinerary included the Albert Dock, Castle Street, the Met Quarter, St John's Shopping Centre, Rope Walks and the newly opened Liverpool ONE. The tour looked at retail developments that have been integrated into the city’s heritage as well as newly redeveloped areas.
Jonathan Doughty, Group Managing Director at Coverpoint Consultancy commented: “The real highlight for me was Chavasse Park and the way it is integrated with the surrounding development. Standing in Liverpool ONE, looking over the park, it’s evident that there is a level of great architecture and planning to have such a huge green space in the middle of the city.”
Golf tournament
This year’s winner of the hotly contested BCSC’s 2008 Conference Golf competition was Steve Wehrle of Land Securities. Wehrle beat last year’s winner Nigel French of Photo-Me International into second place. The tournament took place at Hillside Golf Club situated in Southport and was sponsored by Davis Langdon.
