MediaCity is the new home for the BBC, ITV, Coronation Street, SIS and the University of Salford.

Located at Salford Quays on the banks of Manchester's historic ship canal, Peel Media's bespoke community also features one of the biggest HD studio developments in Europe; 400 apartments; a Holiday Inn and a brand new tram stop in the heart of a spectacular five-acre piazza.

MediaCityUK has been designed around the specific needs of the media and creative industries - its vision being to become a world class hub for innovation and content creation - developing a vibrant and sustainable environment where individuals can live, work, study and visit.

Phase 1 of MediaCityUK is due for completion in 2011.
The city first started coming to life in spring 2010, when the first residents started moving in to their new apartments. In 2011 the rest of Phase 1 has gradually opened for business.

The development plan for the initial 36-acre site (the equivalent of roughly 18 football pitches), includes:

- Office space - 700,000 sq ft (65,032 sq m) (spread across five buildings)
- Studio block - 250,000 sq ft (23,225 sq m)
- Retail / leisure space - 80,000 sq ft (7,432 sq m) (divided into units)
- 378 apartments (divided between two towers)
- 218 bed hotel Five-acre public realm area, including piazza for 4,000 people
- A technical infrastructure supported by 18 million metres of fibre
- Tram terminus, extending the current line
- Foot bridge across the Manchester Ship Canal, linking Salford Quays with Trafford Wharf
- 300 cycle bays
- Multi-storey carpark with approximately 2,200 spaces

The site being developed for 2011 only represents about one fifth of the total land available - there’s actually potential to utilise up to 200 acres.

The Rock, Bury

On July 16th 2010, The Rock, Bury opened to much community anticipation and excitement.

The £350 million, 600,000 sq ft of retail, leisure and residential development has regenerated the Eastern Gate of Bury Town centre and pushed Bury up to a top ten retail venue in the North West (Venuescore, from position 15 to 9). 2010 was a particularly challenging year in both retail and the wider economy and so launching a scheme of this size meant that the marketing and communications strategy had to work even harder to manage negative perceptions in the local community and media.

The Rock site was identified in 2001 as a potential extension of the town centre and would be a major development of the Eastern gateway of Bury Town Centre. Proposals for the retail development were supported by the Bury Council ‘Bury But Better’ strategy and in 2004, an application for The Rock, mixed use development including retail, leisure, food and drink, was approved.

Work on the development began in 2007. Anchored by Debenhams, M&S and Primark, the scheme would bring 60 new retail units offering a mix of quality fashion and other comparison goods retailing and an evening economy including the relocation of the existing Vue cinema, AMF 24 lane bowling and 8 new restaurants and cafes.

In July 2010, The Rock opened - a scheme boasting a contemporary shopping environment with a single level streetscape with double height shop fronts, 1,250 parking spaces and 408 residential units.
