Tue 23 Mar, Secondary Centres Seminar: The Impact of the Recession on Secondary Shopping Centres

The Royal Institution of Great Britain,
Albemarle Street, London, W1S 4BS

Seminar: The Impact of the Recession on Secondary Shopping Centres
Sponsored by:
Douglas Stevens Chartered Surveyors

In association with:
BPF, BRC, IPF and PMA

The perspectives of the financial sector, landlords, retailers and local authorities were debated at this critical industry seminar on 23 March - in which the findings of research commissioned by BCSC and undertaken by DTZ were explored by a panel of industry experts.

It's no secret that retail assets in secondary locations have been severely affected by the recession. Falling value, reduced income, and physical deterioration of these assets are already starting to have a knock-on effect on communities up and down the country.

The BCSC report Secondary Centres: The Impact of the Recession on Secondary Shopping Centres explores the impact of economic conditions on secondary retail property, the scale of the banking sector's exposure to retail real estate, the approaches being adopted to manage these depreciating assets and what specific action is required across the whole industry to facilitate improved performance of secondary assets.

As part of our ongoing communication of these issues BCSC is held a seminar to further explore the causes and effects of deteriorating shopping centres and importantly develop potential remedies.
