“Current operating costs for the UK retail sector, especially SMEs, are at one of their highest points proportionate to current annual turnover. Today’s business rate increase announcement follows two years of significant rises, and further heightens the threat facing the industry at a time of weak spending and low consumer confidence.
We have called in the past for Government to resist introducing the full rates rise, which they have the power to do. There is no more pressing issue for retailers and retail property investors.”
