Future of Retail Property Report 2 - Consumers Over 55: Silver Shoppers Provide a Golden Opportunity (2006)

Publication Date: 27/09/2006

This publication forms part of BCSC’s Future of Retail Property programme. This is a major research initiative designed to map out the key forces for change in the retail industry over the next ten years.

The UK has an increasingly aging population, but is the shopping centre industry sufficiently prepared? Aging consumers have different needs and desires, but how are these translated by shopping places? The grey consumer has grown up with purpose-built schemes but centres are often perceived as environments for the young and so to what extent will shopping places as well as retailers need to adapt in order to keep this increasingly important consumer group?
