Guidance Note 54 – Minor Refurbishment of Shopping Centres and Retail Units

Publication Date: 17/03/2008

This Guidance Note aims to illustrate what can be done at minimum cost to improve sustainability performance in shopping centres and retail units when undertaking refurbishment works.

It was prepared on behalf of the BCSC Sustainability Taskforce, concentrates on potential improvements in three key areas:
- energy consumption
- waste consumption
- wastage of construction materials and the management of construction waste.

It also considers the potential benefits of changes to unit/store management that can enhance sustainability performance, at little or no cost.
