The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 came into effect on 1 October 2006. This legislation applies to all non-domestic premises in England and Wales. The law applies to you if you are an employer, or responsible for business premises (i.e. shop manager) or premises for a charitable or voluntary organisation, or any person who has some control over part of the premises.

This note has been provided to summarise the requirements of the new legislation, why it was introduced and how it could affect BCSC members. It also provides advice on what actions should be taken and likely developments. It is intended as a guide only and is not an exhaustive list of requirements.
