The firm has not only played a key role in assisting with the development of planning policy guidance, but has undertaken ground breaking travel behaviour research demonstrating how cognitive approaches to behaviour can inform travel behaviour change. DHC also led the development of accessibility planning for the Department for Transport including work to scope the policy and partnership mechanisms for delivering improved access for all sectors in society.

Recent clients include Scottish Executive, Scottish Enterprise, Highlands and Island Enterprise (with whom we have a term contract as advisors) Department for Transport, Local Authorities, Enterprise Companies, Social Inclusion Partnerships, Passenger Transport Executives, the Commission for Rural Development, and many Private Companies.

The Institute of Retail Studies (IRS) at University of Stirling was established in 1983 to act as a focus for research on retail issues. It is now one of Europe's largest University based retail institutes and has developed a reputation for offering a range of high quality services to the retail sector as well as undertaking research of an international standard.

IRS has undertaken many research projects relating to transport and regularly reviews the state of the art in retail planning by publishing bibliographies of new research. The Institute has specifically looked at car parking as an influence on consumer choice, the impacts of planning policy, and shopping behaviour within wider lifestyle choices.
