Marie Curie Cancer Care
At our Hospice in Edinburgh

We have been providing over 40 years of high-quality hospice care for our patients and their families in the Edinburgh area. Our hospice offers a relaxed, warm and friendly environment in which patients are always treated as individuals and are helped to enjoy the best possible quality of life throughout their illness.

We specialise in providing holistic care for people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses such as motor neurone and heart disease. In addition to managing symptoms such as pain, we look after the emotional, spiritual and social needs of our in- and out-patients and their families, providing services such as physiotherapy, occupational therapy, social work, bereavement counselling and chaplaincy. We also work hard to ensure that those patients who are able to go home after a stay in the hospice can do so.

There are 27 inpatient beds at the hospice arranged in individual rooms and small 3-bedded wards. As part of Marie Curie Cancer Care’s commitment to care for ‘the whole person’, the hospice also provides day care and outpatient services, where patients come to access a wide range of complementary therapies.

Last year we cared for over 600 inpatients, half of whom returned home and 550 patients were cared for by our Community Nursing Specialists who carry out home visits enabling patients to remain at home for as long as possible if they wish, surrounded by the things they hold most dear.

Other patients are visited by our Marie Curie Nurses who generally work at night - spending eight or nine hours in the patient’s home - allowing carers to rest knowing their loved-one is in safe hands. In addition to providing care for the patient, Marie Curie Nurses are also there to support carers at what can be an emotional and stressful time.

Marie Curie Cancer Care relies on the generosity of local residents and companies to help continue its vital work. Whilst it costs £3.8 million per year to run our Hospice in Edinburgh and £20 an hour for a nurse our services are always free but without your support we cannot continue our care for our patients and their families.

For every family we help there’s another we cannot. That’s why we are working to make choice a reality for all with your help. Thank you so much.
