Blue skies: retail prospects for the next two years
Professor Joshua Bamfield
Director,
The Centre for Retail Research
Professor Bamfield will provide new data from the Centre for Retail Research about retail prospects over the next couple of years. He expects retail growth to be strong, though patchy in some areas, and unfortunately unemployment is likely to continue rising for much of the next year. He will discuss the effects on retailers of the resumption of the housing market, whether consumers will trade up, and how food will be affected by the likely gain in custom by non-food businesses.

Sustainability: Shopping Centres which will still be thriving in 2020 and beyond
Angus McIntosh
Partner and Head of Research,
King Sturge LLP
Climate change and the "Green" agenda are a future reality, with energy costs and security even more challenging for retailers. Legislation is already changing behaviour. But retail property, which is sustainable in 2020, must also be able to attract both people and money; governance holds the key.
